  • 1 lb ground beef Use lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced Russet or Yukon Gold potatoes work well.
  • 1 cup onion, diced Add more for a stronger flavor.
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice) Feel free to mix different cheeses.
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup Can substitute with cream of chicken soup.
  • 1 cup milk Use whole milk for creaminess.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Adjust seasoning according to preference.

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and onion over medium heat until the beef is browned. Drain excess fat.

Assembly

  • In a large bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup and milk; mix well.
  • Layer half of the potatoes in a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Add half of the beef mixture, then half of the cheese.
  • Repeat layers, finishing with cheese on top.
  • Pour the soup mixture over the top layer.

Baking

  • Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
  • Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, until the potatoes are tender and cheese is bubbly.

Notes

Serve hot directly from the baking dish and pair with a green salad. For added flavor, consider incorporating garlic or fresh herbs.
