Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large bowl, beat together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the butter mixture alternating with milk until smooth.
  • Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Assembly

  • Allow cakes to cool completely.
  • Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form.
  • Assemble the layers by placing one cake on a serving plate, spreading a layer of whipped cream, then adding crunchy streusel.
  • Top with the second cake, drizzle with caramel sauce, and decorate as desired.

Notes

Enhance flavor by adding a splash of almond extract. Customize by using different types of cream or fruit fillings between layers. Serve with a drizzle of chocolate sauce for an extra special touch.
