  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 each egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Decoration

  • as needed each royal icing for decoration
  • as needed each shimmering sprinkles for decoration

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until creamy.
  • Add the egg and vanilla, mixing until combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  • Roll the dough into small logs and shape them into tree shapes.
  • Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Baking

  • Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Let cool and decorate with royal icing and shimmering sprinkles.

Notes

For serving, present the cookies on a festive platter and pair with milk or hot cocoa. Can wrap in clear bags as gifts. Variations include using cocoa powder for chocolate cookies or adding spices for a warm flavor.
